Supported Operating Systems
Sometimes our clients ask us, “What is the best computer operating system (OS)?” The answer is always the same, “DOS 1.0.” Rimshot please. Ba-dum-bum-CHING!
OK, we actually don’t say that... at least not without a smile on our face. Let’s just say that we’ve been around a long time and remember the earliest operating systems—back when mullets were still in style and personal computers were a novelty. As a matter of fact, the real answer to the question is “Whichever OS works best for you.”
In reality, it should come as no surprise that different OSs are better at performing various tasks. However, we usually see Microsoft Windows in business environments for desktop and server use. In fact, Windows has approximately 76% of the worldwide desktop market share as of August 2021, (source). The platform is great for business because it provides an easy and predicable environment for your employees.
Here are the OSs that SUURV supports:
- Windows - We support Windows 10 versions 2004, 20H2, 21H1, and 21H2. We also support Windows 11.
- MacOS - Supporting macOS 10.13 or later, macOS High Sierra 10.13, macOS Mojave 10.14, macOS Catalina 10.15, macOS Big Sur 11, macOS Monterey 12.
- Linux – This OS is the undeniable server champion of the world! Ubuntu, Debian, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES), openSUSE Leap, Amazon and Red Hat (RHEL) Linux distributions are supported as well.
- Chrome OS – This is a Gentoo Linux-based operating system designed by Google. Unlike Chromium OS, chromeOS is proprietary software.
- iOS / iPadOS – Supporting iOS 13, iOS 14, and iOS 15
- Android - Supporting Android 9 (Pie), Android 10 (Quince Tart), Android 11 (Red Velvet Cake), and Android 12 (Snow Cone).
Unofficially, we do support other OSs if it is mission critical to your business. For example, we have several companies that use Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) based on FreeBSD/OpenBSD for TrueNAS and pfSense. We also have clients that use system on a chip (SoC) hardware like Raspbian OS for the Raspberry Pi.
